Time for some Thrilling Heroics

There is a nation out in space that is full of Browncoats.  Browncoats are those who LOVE the series Firefly and the movie it spawned Serenity.

I am a Browncoat.

The moment I watched the first episode I fell in love.  I loved the wit and the dialogue.  I loved that it was a space western. I grew up watching old black and white westerns on Sunday with my mom and have always loved the genre.  And of course my other love was science fiction...and this was the best of both worlds.

People so fell in love with this show that they were crushed when it was cancelled after one season and thru the efforts of the fans Joss Wedon the creator was able to eventually make a movie, Serenity finished the story for us fans but we are still hungry for more.

Each character was special starting with Captain Mal Reynolds, played by the wonderful Nathan Fillon. He was emotionally challenged on the outside but had a warm squishy center and you could tell how much he cared for his crew. He was always saying some awesome line that the fans have taken to quoting like..

Nathan loved the Mal character so much it was also carried over for one brief glimpse in Castle.

Zoe is second in command and she is as much a heroine as Mal is a hero.  Anything the men can do so can she and maybe better. She is loyal and faithful. And it is thru her strength that she leads in the captains absence.  She loves her husband and her friends.  She follows until she needs to lead.  She negotiates, mediates and in general leads in a quiet strong way.  And she has a subtle humor to her.

Zoë: You sanguine about the kind of reception we're up to receive on an Alliance ship, Cap?
Mal: Absolutely. What's "sanguine" mean?
Zoë: "Sanguine." Hopeful. Plus, point of interest, it also means "bloody."
Mal: Well, that pretty much covers all the options, don't it?

My next character that I love is Jayne.

Although often a strict mercenary, Jayne had his own code of honor. He loved his momma, we know this cause he sent her money all the time and wore the hat she sent him proudly.
Even when he had a blunt and sometimes harsh attitude toward everyone we know for certain he care about Kaylee, we saw him huddling by the window of the infirmary to see if Kaylee survived a gun shot operation
Jayne kept a huge arsenal in his bunk on Serenity. He had named his favorite and most powerful gun, a Callahan full-bore auto lock with customized trigger double cartridge thorough gauge that he called Vera(which used to be my nickname).
Jayne is complex because he cares what the other members of the crew think of him.  He is truly scared of River. And he is loved by the people of Canton.

And my final love is Wash. He is the pilot of Serenity and married to Zoe.  As a pilot he is either chaotic or Zen. He is a leaf on the wind. He is unassuming and easy-going. He likes dinosaurs.  He loves his wife and has a quirky sense of humor.

Hoban “Wash” Washburne playing with a toy dinosaur: Yes. Yes. This is a fertile land and we will thrive. We will rule over all this land! And we will call it... this land!
Wash as T-Rex: I think we should call it your grave!
Wash as the other dinosaur: Ah! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
Wash as T-Rex: Ha ha ha! Mine is an evil laugh! Now die!
Wash as the other dinosaur: Oh no god! Oh, dear God in heaven!

So if you haven't had the pleasure of a little show called Firefly go find it on Netflix...you'll like it I promise;)
